ABOUT THE BOOK

​Politics and International Relations is an exciting career. Diplomats are at liberty to win laurels for their nations in negotiation, and national interest is a driving force in foreign policy behaviours of states in international relations. In essence, economics, political, military, and cultural influence are key determinant factors in foreign policy relations. In more subtle sense, neo-imperialism and exerting control over less developed regions and territories have increasingly become inevitable in era of globalization. This has led to inequality, exploitation and cultural hegemony.

​The book exposes the implications of globalization. Liberal scholars sees it as catalyst for worldwide economic growth and development characterized by interconnectedness and interdependence among states. Paradoxically, the neo-Marxists sees globalization as perpetuating peripheral dependency on the West; which means that globalization in international relations have transformed peripheral regions into reservoirs of raw materials and cheap labour force, thereby facilitating economic dominance by the West using instrumentalities of Multinational Companies [MNC] as conduit for neo-imperialism.

​The author lucidly explains how both globalization and neo-imperialism have become twin leprosy methods adopted by the West to conquer peripheral states by extension to dominate their ex-colonies. The book also looked into gender in UN Peacekeeping operations; Diplomacy in international relations and politics of global populations among others.

​AUTHOR’S PROFILE

​Chris Chukwu is a scholar in Politics, Defence Studies and International Relations; a product of Abia State University, University of Lagos and Lead City University Ibadan. He teaches International Relations at Christopher University, Mowe Nigeria. The author hails from Ogboli in Awgu Town Enugu State, Nigeria. He had previously written Government and Politics in Nigeria: in us lies the faults [2018]; Defence and Strategic Studies – issues in American Rise to Power; UN and Collective Security and Crisis Management [2020]; International Relations and Political Economy of Developing States [2021]. The author is a member of numerous international organizations, and he had several publications in different academic journals locally and internationally. He is happily married.
