The book is divided into fourteen chapters. The first chapter on foundation lays lots of emphasis on the basics of the philosophy of heat treatment. The detailed study of iron-carbon diagram is a must to grasp the subject better. The chapter on heating of steels lays lot of stress on grain size of steels. Phase transformations have been incorporated in chapter three. Hardenability has been dealt in a separate chapter to signify its importance in heat treatment of steels. The rest chapters deal in various heat treatments to ferrous and nonferrous metals and alloys. Age hardening has been described in a separate chapter. Chapter one also introduces the reader to Indian standards, AISI specifications and British standards, with which the students are normally not introduced. I am sure this book shall fulfill the needs of not only students of engineering but shall provide clear vision to engineers working in industry.
