Within the last two years, significant changes took place in our corpus juris notably in form of enactment of new laws, amendments of existing ones and judicial review of judgements mainly by the Supreme Court. As a result of these developments, it became necessary to review the second edition of this book which was published in June, 2022 to reflect, as much as possible, the current state of our laws. Consequently, principles which no longer apply in the course of time either by reason of sheer judicial activism or legislative activity, as much as could be traced, have been removed and replaced. For instance, many cases based on the Electoral Act 2022 have emerged and the principles from the cases are transforming the electoral space. A good number of those principles have been entered in this third edition and principles based purely on repealed electoral laws were removed. ​

 

This third edition may not have captured all the changes that occured in our corpus juris during the period under review. Law review is a continuum. Therefore, we will continue to track as many of the changes in the law as possible to enrich future editions. Like the second edition, this third edition is designed to reduce the burden of legal research and promote rapid reference. In order to fully achieve those purposes, it is arranged in an easy-to-use alphabetical format. Also, new subjects have been introduced to make the book a formidably enhanced reference book for all categories of legal research. There is a host of new entries in this third edition. Characteristically, these entries, in some cases, present keys that help to locate related subjects, principles and case law authorities in other parts of the book. This was purposely done for greater research profits. It is hoped that lawyers, judges, text writers and sundry academics will find this edition of immense benefit. ​Basil Momodu Esq. January, 2025.
