Description
In carrying out the duties of reviewing the record of a lower court to determine whether an error was committed, appellate courts are expected to operate within a legal framework. The Court of Appeal Rules 2021, Supreme Court Rules 2024, the various Practice Directions, the enabling statutes and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended constitute the legal framework within which the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court are expected to operate. Therefore, this work is basically a dissection of the said rules, laws and constitutional provisions relating to civil appeals. Judicial principles sifted from avalanche of cases were appropriately employed to make the book an authoritative literature on civil appeals in Nigeria. It is our hope that lawyers in litigation practice, judges and other stakeholders in justice delivery will find the book immensely useful. All errors in the book are mine.
