Agricultural Economics has a very long tradition of empirical research.Its contribution to increase in agricultural productivity and production whether measured in terms of output per unit of land or per unit of labour has been well recongnized all over the world.So long as agriculture remained a subsistence activity,the experiential nowledge gained by the peasant through time was sufficient for its successful pursuit. Once it became an activity whose product were to be sold in the national or even international markets,it became incumbent on the farmers to seek newer methods and tools of production and newer markets to sell the products.
