Description

About the Book:

The goal of this book is to introduce Computer Simulation using C language and various numerical methods to apply to several problems in physics relating to mechanics, wave and optics, electromagnetism, and modern physics, including the Monte-Carlo technique for random phenomena like Brownian motion and nuclear decays. The overall strategy is to start with explaining a physical system and developing a computer experiment, to enable readers to develop greater understanding of basic concepts in physics, and to bring real-life component in physics problems. Specifically the following aspects are described for over 60 problems:

Analysis of Problem

Numerical Technique

Algorithm for Problem Solving

Computer Program using C

Numerical Results for Input Parameters

Graphics Presentation of Data

This book can serve as a pedagogical textbook for a Computational Physics Course. It is also provided with C programs of the problems, which can be downloaded. Students are not expected to have knowledge of C, though a little experience with the C-programming would be welcome. As a first attempt, students may run the programs, and are encouraged to modify them for solving different exercise and problems given at the end of each chapter. Programming hints for different problems have also been given in the Appendices.
