About the Book This book on Energy Science & Engineering is specifically written to cater the demand of subjects offered under Engineering Science Courses for B. Tech. (AICTE Model Curriculum) course covering the subject on ‘Energy Science & Engineering’. With the worldwide focus and emphasis on clean energy and harnessing of renewable energy sources, the technology has evolved much in last few years in the field of energy harnessing. In academia, the subjects related to energy such as Energy Science & Engineering, Non-Conventional Energy Sources, and Energy Management have become an integral part of the curriculum of every Indian Universities at the undergraduate and Post-Graduate levels.

This book contains five units covering the basic aspects on Energy and its Usage, nuclear energy, solar energy, various types of other non-conventional energy sources and their conversion techniques, and energy systems and synthesis. This book also contains various statistical data on energy, nuclear radiations and proliferation, energy conservations concepts, green buildings, embodied energy analysis and energy audit procedures. About the Author Dr. Umesh Rathore did his B.Tech. degree in Electrical Engineering from Regional, Engineering College (NIT) Hamirpur (H.P.), Master of Engineering (with Gold Medal) in Instrumentation & Control from Panjab University Chandigarh and PhD from Department of Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering, SLIT University Longowal (Punjab). He is also a recipient of Dr. S.P. Luthra Memorial Gold Medal and Certificate of Merit Award conferred on him by NITTTR Chandigarh for his best performance in Master of Engineering program.

Before joining the teaching profession, he has an industrial experience of about 5 years in leading MNC as an Electrical Engineer. During his tenure in industry, he handled installation, operation and maintenance of Electrical and Instrumentation Systems in the process industry. There he also had a working experience on PLC, SCADA and DCS based automation systems. Later he joined as a faculty in the Department of Technical Education, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh in 1999. Presently he is working as Professor & Head in Electrical Engineering Department at Govt. Hydro Engineering College Bandia (Bilaspur). For the last more than 22 years; he has been teaching the Electrical, Electronics, and Instrumentation related subjects in Electrical and various other departments. Apart from routine academic activities, he is also handling the various administrative duties in the institute as well as in the Technical Education Department of Himachal Pradesh. He has also published many research papers in reputed international journals & conferences and is actively involved in research activities. His areas of academic interest are Industrial Instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers, Process Control System, Power Electronics & Control of Drives, Hydro Power Plant Control, Renewable Energy Conversion Systems and Energy Management. His other publication work includes the books on Industrial Instrumentation, Basic Instrumentation System & Programmable Logic Controller, PLC & Microcontrollers, Energy Management, and Electrical Workshop practices.
