About the Author:

Shahab Fazal is Professor of Geography at Aligarh Muslim University. He has published twelve books and more than fifty research articles in various national and international journals like Land Use-Policy, Environment and Urbanization, Landscape and Urban Planning, Habitat International, Asian Profile, Journal of Indian Society of Remote Sensing, Journal of Environmental Protection etc. His research interests are in Land use, Land transformation issues in urban fringe, Remote Sensing and GIS. He is recipient of prestigious fellowships such as CSIR Fellowship (1991-93), DST Young Scientist Project Grant Award (2000-2003), Government of India. He has successfully completed four Major Research Projects sponsored by DST, ICSSR, DST-DAAD and SICI (Canada). He is recipient of prestigious fellowships such as–Shastri Faculty Research Fellowship (2003 and 2009); Commonwealth Fellowship (2004); DST-DAAD Fellowship (2000-2001); NWO-ICSSR Visiting Professor (2011); Fulbright Fellowship (2013-14). He has extensive collaborative research with some of the leading institutions from Western World. His academic visits for research include United States of America; Great Britain; Canada; Germany; The Netherlands; Sweden; Belgium; France; Switzerland; Italy etc. He has been awarded “Distinguished Scientist” for his contribution in Land Use Studies by Centre for Advanced Research and Design, Venus International Foundation, Chennai (2015).

Atiqur Rahman is Professor of Geography at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He worked as a Post Doctoral Fellow (PDF) at UFZ-Centre for Environmental Research, Leipzig, Germany (1999). He was the Visiting Scientist, University of Leipzig, Germany (2000). He was Co-PI of Indo-Germany DST-DAAD major project (2000-2002). He is the recipient of prestigious Young Scientist Project Grant Award (2001-2004) from DST, Government of India, has done MoEF, Govt. of India funded project on Aresenic in Ground. He was a member of Scientific Research Team of NASA funded Urban Environmental Management Project (2004-2007). He is the collaborating Scientist of another NASA funded project on Impacts of Desert Urbanization (2012-2015). Dr. Rahman has also done professional development initiative training on Climate Change and Its Impacts at Brown University, USA (2010). He served as a Steering Committee (SC) Member (2009-2012) of Population and Environment Research Network (PERN) of CISIN, Columbia University USA. He worked as Advisor-Technical on Remote Sensing & GIS for the project (2014-15) on ‘The effects of Built environment on Physical activity and CMD Disease risk factors (PHFI & AIIMS)’, at Emory University, USA. He has published 7 books and 70 research papers in various national and international journals. He has widely traveled to various countries in Europe, Africa, Canada and USA.
